First time sponsorship made possible by support of local McDonald’s owners
Iselin, NJ (June 28, 2014) – McDonald’s New York Tri-State has been named an official League Sponsor of the “We Run As One” (WRAO) Summer Youth Basketball League, a local program that uses basketball as a fun and engaging way to bring together diverse youth while teaching them the virtues of leadership, teamwork and responsibility. Made possible through the support of local McDonald’s owners, this first-time sponsorship was announced during a special kick-off ceremony that featured elected officials and Ronald McDonald.
Launched in 2012, WRAO is held at Playground 1 adjacent to P.S. 1 Alfred E. Smith Elementary School in Lower Manhattan. Running on Saturday mornings from June 28 – August 9, the league is open to youth 13 years of age and under and registration is free. This year, the program anticipates over 160 participants. WRAO is organized by The Dynasty Project (TDP), in partnership with APEX For Youth and presenting local sponsor Straight Finish Orthodontics. TDP creates and supports innovative programs that enrich local communities through athletics and the pursuit of athletic endeavors.
WRAO operates in a neighborhood where and 26.2% of households live below the poverty level and summer basketball leagues can often be unaffordable to local residents. This program ensures that every child who wants to play can play. Additionally, all of WRAO’s staff, coaches and scorekeepers are volunteers.
The WRAO league sponsorship continues another exciting year of community activities and initiatives for McDonald’s New York Tri-State. Upcoming programs include the annual Ronald McDonald House Charities® / ASIA Scholarship Program, the largest local scholarship awarded to Asian students in the New York Tri-State area; McDonald’s Education Workshops, a series of free workshops that help students prepare for college; and McDonald’s B-Boy Royale, New York City’s largest breakdance competition of the year.
“’We Run As One’ is thrilled to have the support of McDonald’s as a League Sponsor,” said Ren Hsieh, Executive Director of The Dynasty Project. “Their involvement will help to ensure that this year’s program will be our biggest and best one yet.”
“My fellow McDonald’s owners and I are very proud to support local programs that are making a positive impact in our communities,” said McDonald’s owner Josh Kaufman. “’’We Run As One’ is a fabulous youth basketball league that brings together children from different backgrounds and teaches them valuable lessons through sports.”
