Westfield Resident Wins McDonald’s® Outstanding Operations Contributor Award

Prestigious honor is the latest accolade in Mayra Romero’s 13 year career with the company

 

ISELIN, NJ – MARCH 11, 2015 – Westfield, NJ resident and McDonald’s operations director Mayra Romero was honored with a 2015 Outstanding Operations Contributor Award last night at the McDonald’s New York Tri-State Managers’ Banquet held at the Glenpointe Marriott. The prestigious honor recognizes her achievements increasing restaurant hospitality standards and exemplifying the first class experience that McDonald’s is known for.  The award is just the latest accolade in Romero’s 13 year career with the company.

As Director of Operations, Romero oversees 15 McDonald’s restaurants across the New Jersey region. Throughout her career, Romero’s leadership and accomplishments have been celebrated with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Ray Kroc Award, which honors the top 1% of McDonald’s store managers and recognizes their passion for reaching the highest levels of perfection. Romero credits her supervisors as having played an invaluable role in her career development from a part-time cashier to an award-winning operations director.

“It’s been a privilege to witness Mayra develop into such an incredible leader and an integral part of my team,” said Chris Cottrell, a McDonald’s franchisee and Romero’s supervisor/mentor since she began with the company. “She epitomizes the wonderful opportunities McDonald’s offers its employees and the company’s commitment to ensuring their success and advancement.”

Romero began with McDonald’s in 2002 after emigrating to the U.S. from her native Venezuela. Pursuing a master’s degree in behavioral science at the time, she needed a part-time job with flexible hours that could fit into her busy class schedule. She found that flexibility and more as a McDonald’s crew person. While she initially perceived her job as simply a way to help pay for college, Romero’s enthusiasm and work ethic soon caught the attention of her supervisors – in less than a year, she was promoted to manager. As Romero completed her studies, she realized she wanted to continue with the company beyond graduation due to the positive work environment and relationships she developed. Today, she continues to reinforce these values to inspire and empower her own team.

“I believe a great workplace is made by the people and my colleagues were a huge part of the reason I decided to stay with McDonald’s,” recalls Romero. “As a supervisor, I’m always trying to positively encourage my staff.  I never miss an opportunity to say something nice, especially if it’s a job well done.”
