Local Franchisees Promote Balanced Eating in Staten Island

McDonald’s Staten Island franchisees engaged with Staten Island Health & Wellness Expo attendees at the Hilton Garden Inn to spread awareness about McDonald’s food quality and commitment to providing customers the information they need to make balanced food choices.

McDonald’s brand ambassadors gave out palm-cards on how to mix and match McDonald’s meals to stay within daily-recommended calorie needs, as well as menu choices that include all the food groups (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat dairy and protein). Additionally, McDonald’s Staten Island franchisees and Ronald McDonald distributed free samples of Apple Slices and Dasani water.

“We want people to know that McDonald’s is much more than burgers and fries. We offer options that fit everyone’s lifestyle and needs,” said Michael Sweeney, Staten Island McDonald’s owner. A dedicated Staten Island neighbor, Michael donated Chicken McNuggets, Apple Slices, Dasani bottled water, Low Fat Chocolate Milk Jugs, Apple Juice, and 250 Happy Meal toys to 500 local students. Sweeney also served 50 Staten Island teachers salads, Fruit ‘N Yogurt Parfaits, Apple Pies and Dasani bottled water.

“I didn’t know that McDonald’s had menu choices under 600 calories; this completely changes the image that I had of their food,” said one of the attendees who visited the McDonald’s booth. Expo participants left with a new outlook about McDonald’s food. McDonald’s participation in the Staten Island Health & Wellness Expo showcased its commitment to being a good neighbor and its disposition to hold open and honest exchanges with its guests.

The Staten Island Health & Wellness Expo

Staten Island Health & Wellness Expo is a daylong event that showcases seminars, exhibitors, panel discussions, keynote speakers, medical screening tests and fitness demonstrations that are free and open to the public. The expo is the only Health & Wellness expo held on Staten Island and this year drew more than 2,000 people and over 100 vendors. McDonald’s was the only quick service restaurant participating in the expo.
