In celebration of the Year of the Monkey, McDonald’s New York Tri-State Owner/Operators will participate as an official sponsor of four major Lunar New Year events in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. These include the Chinatown New Year’s Day Firecracker Ceremony, Flushing Lunar New Year Parade, Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade and the Brooklyn Lantern Festival. Ronald McDonald® will be making appearances at each event and marching in the two parades alongside McDonald’s franchisees and employees on a customized float. This year’s sponsorship of the Chinatown Firecracker Ceremony and Parade will mark the sixth year in a row that the McDonald’s New York Tri-State Owner/Operators have participated at both events and the Flushing parade will be the third year in a row.
During the Chinatown Firecracker Ceremony, a crowd of 200,000 braved the snow to watch 500,000 rounds of firecrackers go off to ring in the first day of the Lunar New Year. Paul Hendel, a McDonald’s franchisee and President of McDonald’s New York Metro Owner/Operators Association, was in attendance to wish everyone a Happy Year of the Monkey.
“The Lunar New Year is a major cultural celebration and tradition for our city that we are proud to be a part of,” said Paul Hendel. “Cultural events such as these are part of the identity of New York and demonstrate our region’s amazing diversity.”
Other special guests in attendance included State Senator Daniel Squadron, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Councilwoman Margaret Chin.
