For the third year in a row, McDonald’s New York Tri-State will serve as a community sponsor of the We Run As One (WRAO) summer youth basketball league, a local program that uses the sport to unite diverse low-income youth in Chinatown and the Lower East Side.
A check presentation was held during the league’s opening game last Saturday with over 200 children and their families in attendance. Special guest Ronald McDonald also donated 50 basketballs to the young players on behalf of local McDonald’s franchisees.
WRAO is open to youth ages 8-12 and registration is free. The program is organized by The Dynasty Project, a non-profit group that encourages young professionals to give back to local communities and provide positive role models to underserved immigrant youth. WRAO will hold weekly games every Saturday at Playground 1 in Lower Manhattan through the end of August.
