Long Island McDonald’s Teams Up With Local Fire Departments to Encourage Fire Safety

Long Island McDonald’s teamed up with Nassau and Suffolk County fire centers and fire departments to emphasize the importance of home fire safety. On October 7th, participants gathered at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum on Charles Lindberg Boulevard in Garden City, where Ronald McDonald presented 250 Kidde Worry-Free 10-year sealed lithium battery smoke alarms and 50 carbon monoxide (CO2) alarms to the Nassau and Suffolk county fire marshals.


The alarms were donated by Kidde, a leading manufacturer of residential fire safety products. Additionally, throughout October, fire departments will visit schools to educate students about fire safety and pass out a worksheet about EDITH (Exit Drills in the Home) and a home “Hazard Hunt.” Children who complete the worksheet will be rewarded with a certificate good for a free grilled chicken snack wrap, 6pc Chicken McNuggets, or cheeseburger and a small soft drink, apple juice or low fat chocolate milk from Long Island McDonald’s.

During Fire Prevention Month, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office urges everyone to make time for fire safety. A moment spent now could make the difference in an emergency. Families should develop and practice a fire safety plan and fire survival strategy along with an exit plan and meeting place outside their home.

“Be sure all family members know what to do in the event of a fire, or any emergency that may require you to exit your home quickly. Check your home for fire hazards, correcting them as you do. Install, inspect, and test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Be fire safe…be fire smart,” says Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.
