McDonald’s Celebrates American Education Week with English Under the Arches Graduation

McDonald’s New York Tri-State celebrated American Education Week on November 17 with a special graduation for fifteen Connecticut managers who have completed ‘English Under the Arches’, an English language learning course for non-native speaking employees.

The graduates –who immigrated from Mexico, Central and South American countries and range in age from their late 20s to early 40s– were recognized by supervisors and colleagues for successfully finishing the first eight-week course of ‘English Under the Arches.’

“I want to thank everyone here for this opportunity,” said Vicky Mendez, a McDonald’s manager in Norwalk who has been with the Trefz organization for 13 years. “It’s very important to have education for us and our families.”

“It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, education is extremely important,” said Christian C. Trefz, a longtime McDonald’s franchisee with ‘English Under the Arches’ graduates. “I’m proud to be able to offer my employees the opportunity to continue with their education through Archways to Opportunity.”

‘English Under the Arches’ is just one component of Archways to Opportunity, the McDonald’s workforce education program that supports employees across the country in earning their high school diploma, pursuing a college degree or learning English. For more information, please visit here.
