It began on the streets of NYC and became a global phenomenon. This summer, let the battles hit the floor.
McDonald’s B-Boy Royale, New York City’s largest annual breaking tournament, returns this summer with eight award-winning crews from across the U.S. and Canada battling it out for a $5,000 grand prize and the 2017 championship title. The event will also feature showcase performances, audience competitions and live music performances.
“It’s an honor to be part of McDonald’s B-Boy Royale on the 40th anniversary of Rock Steady Crew,” said lead judge Richard ‘Crazy Legs’ Colón, who was the inaugural recipient of the B-Boy Royale Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. “This year’s tournament offers a great platform to celebrate the history—and future—of breaking in the city where it all began.”
The tournament will also celebrate the introduction of breaking as an official sport at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires by paying tribute to the street dance’s pioneers and its New York City roots.
The eight crews competing at McDonald’s B-Boy Royale entering this year are:
• Fraggle Rock Felons (Washington – Toronto)
• ION (US – Canada)
• Knucklehead Zoo (Utah – Nevada)
• Knuckleheads Cali (Minnesota)
• MKD (New York – Connecticut – New Jersey)
• New Chapter (Texas – New York)
• Retro Gnomes (Pennsylvania – Maryland)
• Rock Force (Nevada – Alaska – California)
