Celebrating Cinco de Mayo with McCafé

Families gathered at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Sunday to celebrate the 17th annual Festival del 5 de Mayo.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday commemorating the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. In the United States, many Mexican and Mexican-American families observe the holiday through celebration of Mexican culture and heritage.

There was no shortage of celebration at Festival del 5 de Mayo, where 350,000 attendees gathered from around the New York Tri-State area to enjoy live music, dancing, food, prizes and community.

Guests lined up by the McCafé smoothie truck for tasty samples of Strawberry Banana and Mango Pineapple smoothies, and a chance to spin the McDonald’s prize wheel.
